2014 has been a challenging year for us. Rocky worked hard to get his insurance license and since it took longer than we hoped we were facing another summer apart with Rocky working back East and us here. He went on a short sales trip in April and it was so hard on Little Rock I just knew we couldn't do it for an entire summer. We knew it was going to be hard financially but Rocky decided to continue pursuing a job in the insurance field so we could be together.

He has worked so hard and overcome so many obstacles. We haven't seen as much of him as we had hoped or had as many adventures as we planned but, he is home every night and for that I am grateful. We have one car that Rocky takes for most of every day so that has proven to be most difficult.

I know this time will pass and that all in all we are so blessed and have so much to be grateful for. I know that easier times will head our way. I am grateful for a husband who doesn't give up and does everything he can to help make our lives easier including picking up groceries at 10:00 at night. But, this year I want to focus on all the good things.

I never want to forget how much I love this place we call home. It is so magical and we look forward to all the beautiful things each season here brings.

The winter with it's haunting fog and the bare trees covered in neon green moss. The way the frost paints the leaves and spider webs in the pasture each morning. Watching the storms roll through in the late afternoons. And splashing in the water that floods the pasture.

The spring with it's beautiful flowers blooming everywhere and the amazing smells. The baby birds chirping in all the trees.  The turkey mammas hiding out with their babies in the tall pasture grass calling to each other. The flowering cherry tree.

The summer with it's bright blue skies and puffy white clouds. The multicolored birds that eat every last one of the cherries off the tree. The little garden snakes and all the places they like to hide out. The swallows that gather in our pasture in swarms of up to 40 flying around and around teaching the babies to fly. And blackberries everywhere.

The fall with all the changing colors, and falling leaves. The turkeys hanging out under the apple trees. The most amazing sunsets. Picking all the apples that cover the trees. The frogs and lizards in the ponds.

I've learned more about nature here than I ever thought possible. When first moving in the sight of a big spider or a mouse would send me screaming and now I'm rushing to get a jar to catch them in so we can observe them before letting them go (outside away from the house of course). I let the spider's make and keep their webs outside our windows so we can watch them weave them and catch their food. I know the sound that most of the birds here make, and their names. I know which ones are extra skittish and which ones will let us get close. We know who all the tracks on the trails belong to. We know the sounds the squirrels make in the trees when fighting over food. I am so grateful for such an exciting place for our son to grow up.

Little Rock is such a light in our lives. He is the happiest most fun loving boy. He has the best sense of humor and says the funniest things out of nowhere. He is the busiest boy not in the hyper sense he is just always doing something and going from one thing to the next. He is always curious; always looking to see what kind of trouble he can get into; taking in everything around him.

Some may say he is a handful or strong willed but I see him as my spirited wild child. I want to let Rocky be who he is. He is fiercely independent not in the wanting to do things all by himself kind of way (he doesn't like to be alone for  a moment) but in the I can decide and do for myself way. He loves so deeply and cares so much he cannot stand to see anyone or any animal sad or hurting in any way. He is the first to comfort. He loves to tease and can drive his younger cousin Remi crazy but then he will have the sweetest kindest moment of sharing a special toy with him or helping him to get something he wants.

The other day we were at the mall with Jessica and Remington and the boys were running around like crazy and Rem fell down hard on his face. It's so hard because when Rem gets hurt you want to go rushing to him to make sure he is okay but he absolutely hates this he gets embarrassed and doesn't want anyone fussing over him. So he was lying there on the mall floor crying not letting Jess or I near him and we were just trying to wait it out and Rock comes running over pretends to slip falls down right in front of him and waits to see what Rem does Remi just starts dying laughing so Rocky joins in too. So there they both are flat on their bellies laughing their heads off. It was the sweetest thing I've ever seen.
